Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD. Thomas Embling Hospital is a 124-bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care services.

About the role:

Therapeutic programs are evidence-based recovery programs mostly group based for patients at T.E.H. They are facilitated by experts and multi-disciplinary clinicians and promote recovery as well as address criminogenic needs.

The role of the therapeutic program assistant (TPA) is to support the work of the therapeutic program coordinator and perform duties as requested. The TPA will assist the therapeutic program coordinator to coordinate the therapeutic programs at T.E.H.

The TPA will provide administrative support to the therapeutic program coordinator through timetabling, promotional material creation and distribution, and database creation and management. In addition, the TPA will have direct contact with patients including escorting patients to sessions and providing some co-facilitation when required. The TPA will keep records of patients' attendance to programs and pre and post assessments and evaluation.

Together with the therapeutic program coordinator they will ensure high standard programs that are delivered with consistency and are sustainable over the long term. 

About you:

You are committed to mental health consumer recovery. You have experience and/or understanding of an administrative role and the ability to work within this role in the multi-disciplinary framework. You have a knowledge and understanding of the needs of mentally ill patients and an awareness of the issues of provision of care in a forensic environment.

An ability to establish positive working relationships with patients through establishing rapport and motivating and facilitating patient participation in a broad range of therapeutic programs, including group work while providing support and supervision as appropriate. 

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Full or partial completion of a qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Certificate or Diploma in disability support, mental health support, allied health assistant, welfare, or similar) OR willingness to work towards such a qualification via professional development and formal courses while in the position.
  • Highly developed computer skills; including PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher to produce documents, brochures and timetables.
