The Federation of Community Legal Centres (Victoria) is the non-profit peak body for Victoria’s 49 community legal centres. The Federation leads and supports community legal centres to make justice accessible for all. Over the past two decades, the Federation has played a key role in improving the justice system and defending the rights of disadvantaged Victorians.
The Communications Manager is an exciting new position with responsibility for managing the Federation’s communications including media and campaigns. This role offers the chance to effect real change in a dynamic and diverse environment.
Your key responsibilities will require you to:
- Develop and implement a communications and media strategy for the organisation
- Assist with the development of campaign and policy strategies
- Act as contact for, and coordinate, media inquiries.
- Advise on, write and edit media releases, opinion articles and other articles and generate media coverage
- Act as Federation media spokesperson from time to time
- Help to maintain and enhance the Federation’s website and the Smart Justice website
- Further develop and implement social media activities
- Coordinate content, editing, publication and distribution of stakeholder publications
- Assist in preparing other publications
- Together with other staff, coordinate seminars, events and launches
- Assist with funding strategies
In particular, this role will have a strong focus working on our Smart Justice project www.smartjustice.org.au.
We are looking for someone with experience in public relations, communications, campaigning, media advocacy or journalism, with a commitment to advancing social justice. You will be skilled in managing priorities and using initiative to identify and respond to issues, working with a high degree of autonomy. Excellent oral and written communication skills are expected as are strong interpersonal skills. Experience in social justice, human rights or legal issues is desirable.
This is a flexible 4 day (30.4 hours) a week position for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. The salary package is pro rata of a full time package of $77,478 (salary $70,000, superannuation $6,300 at 9% and leave loading $1,178). The Federation’s tax exempt charity status allows generous additional tax benefits through salary packaging, essentially allowing part of the salary to become tax free. 5+ weeks annual leave plus other attractive conditions.
