About drummond street services & the Redress Support Service

drummond street services (DS) is a not-for-profit, non-denominational agency that has over 130 years in the development and delivery of innovative services that strengthen families and communities with a strong focus on evidence-based/informed practice and across the prevention and early intervention spectrum of universal and targeted support.

Redress Services provide counselling and support to survivors of institutional child sexual abuse their families and loved ones who are making an application to the National Redress Scheme or have accepted an offer of counselling with Restore – Victorian Redress Counselling Service. Services are informed by drummond street’s learnings and the input of survivors in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The service offers a trans-disciplinary trauma informed, recovery model of support with survivors their families and loved ones that is flexible, compassionate, respectful, empowering and holistic.

Your role as Senior Practitioner

drummond street is seeking a Senior Practitioner to join their Redress Support Service on a part-time, contract basis until the end of June 2020 (possibility of extension subject to funding). This role will be based in Carlton, with travel with metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria as required.

Reporting to the Team Leader Redress Support Service, this role will see you providing practice leadership for and delivery of high quality Redress Services to survivors. This is an extremely important position contributing to the success of Redress Services. You'll provide a diverse range of services relevant to each survivor's situation, harnessing opportunities to facilitate and encourage an ongoing, open dialogue.

About you

The following will be essential in this position:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health) and further training in relation to family work
  • Current Accreditation with a relevant professional body, e.g., APS, AASW
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the counselling, family services and/or mental health sectors
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience providing clinical supervision to practitioners
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with survivors of institutional child sexual abuse
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex trauma and recovery approaches to intervention
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of a range of therapeutic approaches for individuals, couples and families.
  • Demonstrated experience with providing supportive counselling and case work that supports children and families with multiple and complex needs such as mental health, family violence and drug and alcohol issues
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • A genuine interest and commitment to working with LGBTIQ, Aboriginal, refugee, disability, CaLD and other higher risk cohorts.
  • A background working within a trans-disciplinary team, including team members with lived experience
  • Experience providing support services to both individuals and groups
