In recognition of the needs of young people leaving the OoHC system in the Goulburn Area, Berry Street, in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services have committed to a project (Better Futures) designed to better prepare young people for their transition to independence. This will be achieved via service delivery utilising a suite of resources in a relationship based and case support framework.

About the Role:

  • Assist young people to identify their goals, utilising the Better Futures and Advantage Thinking framework
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various businesses, organisations and services within the Hume and wider Goulburn area to advocate and set up opportunities for rentals, employment, education, and community engagement
  • Assist young people to have opportunities for social inclusion through a variety of services and community relationships, such as various businesses to assist in employment, mental health services, and community-based activities such as football, cricket, tennis, local gyms, and community run programs that assist and work with young people
  • Build a pool of mentors through various advertising and promotion methods
  • Provide support and training to mentors, assist with matching each mentor with a mentee and provide assistance in helping them to build positive relationships

About You:

The Better Futures – Community Connectedness and Mentor Worker will require knowledge of one or more of the following areas; Child Youth and Family - Residential Care, Child Youth and Family – Home Based Care, Community and social welfare programs, Education and learning (including vocational education) or Homelessness.

Skills and Experience required:

  • A minimum Diploma qualification in a relevant field is preferred however unqualified applicants with demonstrated appropriate experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining relationships within the community
  • Demonstrated experience in providing case support and information to young people, services and professionals
  • Demonstrated experience working with other professionals to assist young people to overcome barriers faced by young people
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to Mentors, Services, and other professionals
  • Must either hold or be able to obtain a valid Working with Children’s Card and undergo a Criminal Records Check prior to employment
