Australian Progress is seeking a driven and experienced social changemaker to lead content programming, speaker liaison, and impact partnerships for Progress 2017, Australia’s premier social change conference. Progress will be held for a third time at Melbourne Town Hall in June.

Progress convenes leaders to discuss the big issues facing our future, and build bold new collaborations to tackle them.

You will be responsible for delivering an inspiring agenda of speakers, workshops and other sessions, and work closely with the Executive Director to develop partnerships and projects that leverage the event for maximum, longer-term environmental and social impact.

This work will include:

  • Working with the Executive Director and team to shape the agenda of the conference (this work is already underway).
  • Identifying dozens of additional speakers or other content elements for the conference program, such as issue or campaigning experts, discussion facilitators, performing artists and multimedia components
  • Preparing and sending invitations, tracking responses, collating speaker information, and arranging travel where necessary
  • Acting as key liaison with the emcee, including preparation of a detailed brief
  • Briefing and introducing all speakers
  • Gathering and coordinating any audio visual or other materials from participants (likely with an assistant in the days before the conference).
  • Overseeing stakeholder events including invitations, RSVPs and agenda.
  • Working closely with the Event Producer (at Wildwon Projects), and Speakers to ensure a detailed and up-to-date Run Sheet for the event and individual sessions.
  • Design and delivery of Progress 2017-located components of strategic initiatives (new coalitions, projects, campaigns) designed to leverage the event, such as on-stage announcements, interactive sessions, etc.
  • Coordination of a program of masterclasses the day before the conference
  • Coordination of “ProgressX” - meetings held by partner organisations which are officially listed in the program and/or supported by Australian Progress.
  • Assisting, as required with sponsor development and pitching
  • Other related duties as required

Who you are

  • Experience in large scale event management and curation, such as around a major Summit or Writers, Film or Ideas Festival, or corporate event.
  • Experience in campaigning, advocacy or social change.
  • Strong communications abilities, including proposal writing.
  • Strong computer literacy, and comfortability using collaborative office and project management software.

Role details

  • Melbourne or Sydney.
  • This is a mid-level role, 3-5+ years relevant experience is expected at a minimum.
  • Salary commensurate with experience (likely $70-90K plus super, pro-rata)
  • Full-time.
  • Fixed term contract (January 16 - June 23, 2017).
  • This role is part of a small team working on Progress 2017, including staff at Australian Progress and our event production partner, Wildwon Projects. Other staff include:
    • Executive Director and Deputy Director (AP) - overall responsibility for event, content, sponsorship
    • Event Marketing Coordinator (AP) - responsible for ticket sales, scholarships, website, and event promotion
    • Event Producer(s) (WW) - venue management, overall logistics, participant experience, volunteer management, risk management, brand, theming & other collateral production
    • Stage Manager (WW) - coordination of event on the day, including AV
