An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. Barnardos Australia builds relationships between children, young people, their families and the community. They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role

Barnardos are looking for a part time (28 hours / 4 days) Youth and Family Caseworker for the Universal Screening and Supports (US&S) Program with the based in Cranebrook, Penrith. This will be a fixed term contract position of 2.5 years.

The US&S program has grant funding to provide services for a 2.5-year period across campuses in an education setting based across the Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains districts.

The role of the Youth and Family Caseworker is to ensure that high quality services are delivered to children, young people and families within a child focused practice framework. The Team Leader will provide day to day support to the US&S Team; ensuring the delivery of quality casework that is consistent with Pilot Specifications and Barnardos Policies and Procedures. The role includes daily case coordination, conducting reviews of practice and procedure, convening meetings, supervising staff, attending and liaising with local networks. The team leader will also maintain a caseload.

The Candidate

The successful Youth and Family Caseworker  will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Community Services or a related field.
  • 2 years’ experience working with children and young people and their family in a child protection context
  • Knowledge of Youth Homelessness and Youth Services within the Blacktown and Penrith LGA’s.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and concerns of families and children within the Blacktown and Penrith LGA’s
  • Knowledge of child protection issues
  • Working knowledge of assertive case management practices for working with young people and families who may be unwilling to engage with support services
  • Demonstrated experience in working with families with multiple, complex needs and that may be experiencing acute crisis

Additional info

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number).

You will also need a full drivers license and capacity to participate in an on-call roster, providing a 24/7 response to children, young people and families.

Salary
$65 522 - $69 744 pro rata (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor Vehicle packaging optional.
