As of February 2016, Barnardos is the Lead Agency in the ACT Together Consortium, combining and coordinating the OOHC Program resources of the five agencies in the ACT on behalf of the Territory Government in the care of some 750 children and young people: Barnardos Australia, OzChild, Australian Childhood Foundation, Premier Youthworks and Relationships Australia. ACT Together brings together all of the service elements designed to support children and young people who cannot live with their birth families.
Reporting to the Regional Manager of OOHC Services, the Intake Officer is responsible for overseeing the organisational process for incoming referrals for children & young people requiring out of home care. You will work in collaboration with Program Managers and Carer Support as well as liaison with CYPS (Child Youth & Protection Services) and SPAs to take referrals for out of home care and matching for placements. You will also support carers awaiting allocation of children/young people through support of their enquiries and follow up.
The ideal candidate will have a qualification in Social Work, Social Welfare or related area, advanced case-management skills and experience in the provision of protection services, support and service delivery to children and young people. Demonstrated knowledge of child development and the implications of abuse and demonstrated understanding of children in disadvantaged families is essential.
Our desired candidate would have previous experience working in out of home care, an understanding of Child Protection and Out of Home Care and/or experience in working with ACT Care and Protection Services and the Department of Family and Community Services.
Salary: $73,767 (Salary packaging available)
