YFS is a leading not-for-profit organisation working with vulnerable people in Logan and surrounds. YFS offers a range of services including a community legal service, family support, DV programs, financial counselling, employment preparation and housing case management. We are uniquely positioned to help families achieve real change to end inter-generational disadvantage.

YFS seeks an experienced Solicitor to join the YFS Legal team. The Legal Service is an integral part of YFS providing free legal advice, information, referrals, community education, court representation for youth criminal law and Respondent duty lawyer representation at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

We are looking for an applicant that is resilient, robust and enthusiastic about providing quality legal services to people who are financially disadvantaged in Logan City.

YFS Legal is looking for a generalist lawyer, with experience in civil law. The successful applicant will be passionate about delivering front line legal services to the local community. Specific duties include:

  • Providing advice, information and referrals predominantly in civil law, but also other areas of law such as family and family and domestic violence;
  • Providing legal community education; and
  • Potentially providing a domestic violence duty Lawyer service at Beenleigh Magistrates Court for Respondents, which includes advice and representation in Court.

Applicants are required to have a practising certificate from either the Queensland Law Society or the Bar Association of Queensland. A current Queensland C Class driver’s licence is required. The successful applicant must have (or have the ability to obtain) a Positive Blue Card Notice and Disability Services Yellow Card Exemption Notice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a legal service that works alongside other community and government services to provide joined up service provision for people.  Applicants are initially required to submit a resume and a one page covering letter expressing interest in the position and alignment with the position description’s qualifications and competencies.
