Waller Legal is a high profile legal practice dedicated to representing people who have been sexually abused in an institutional setting.

We are an innovative personal injury practice that operates under a trauma-informed practice model and offers a supportive workplace environment.

We are seeking a highly organised, confident and self-motivated solicitor with minimum two-years post-admission experience to join our team. Solicitors with experience in personal injury dispute resolution and litigation and/or institutional abuse claims are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Managing an individual case load of institutional abuse claims on behalf of survivors of child abuse 
  • Interviewing and taking instructions from clients
  • Providing a consistently high standard of legal advice to clients via telephone and in person
  • Preparing complex written advices    
  • Maintaining orderly and up to date legal files
  • Drafting correspondence and documents accurately to a high standard
  • Preparing and collating an array of documents including briefs to counsel and court books
  • Instructing counsel
  • Preparing cases for and attending mediation and/or court
  • Assisting with the supervision of support staff and interns and leading a small team
  • Preparing for and participating in practice planning, strategy and budget meetings 

Key selection criteria:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  2. Demonstrated experience working in a law firm as a solicitor, conducting key responsibilities such as those outlined above.
  3. Experience providing support to a busy supervisor and/or managing a team.
  4. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
  5. Strong attention to detail and consistent, productive high standards of work.
  6. Strong work and customer service ethic with ability to maintain a calm, sensitive, professional and respectful manner with a diverse range of people.
  7. Ability to prioritise, manage deadlines and work well under pressure
  8. Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as being an excellent team player.

Salary commensurate with experience.
