  • Casual: 12-30 (negotiable) hours per week.
  • Initially for three months following a probation period with the possibility of extension or transfer to permanent.
  • Work hours are flexible.
  • Pay: $25-$40 per hour (negotiable) plus 25% loading
  • Reports to: VIA Project Director
  • Commencement date: Flexible

The Policy and Project Officers will report to the Director of the VIA Project and work independently and collaboratively on a combination of short-term and long-term projects with competing deadlines. They will be responsible for:

  • Briefing the Director on matters relevant to the VIA Project
  • Researching good practice in all areas of identifying, responding to, and preventing harms caused by intelligence agencies
  • Drafting submissions to Government inquiries
  • Contributing to VIA Project policy documents
  • Contributing to VIA Project publications
  • Drafting summaries of tailored health, legal, and social information
  • Drafting and reviewing VIA Project internal documents
  • Liaising with service providers to the VIA Project
  • General administrative duties
  • Other duties as directed by the VIA Project Director

Qualifications required: Honours degree (or currently enrolled in an honours degree) in a relevant discipline: Law, public health, psychology, social sciences, international relations, national security etc. and/or

Experience: Experience in national security, public health, policing, or public service policy/FOI.
