The St Kilda 24/7 Needle and Syringe Program operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and provides sterile injecting equipment, safe sex products, information, education, harm reduction support and referral to people accessing the service.

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Harm Reduction NSP workers who demonstrate:

  • Highly developed communication skills
  • A knowledge, commitment and passion for harm reduction approaches
  • Motivation to undertake tasks and projects outside of day to day NSP delivery

The Key Selection Criteria for this role are: 

  1. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of harm reduction as it relates to injecting drug use.
  2. A thorough understanding of and demonstrated ability to work with people who are experiencing disadvantage including but not limited to homelessness, negative societal impacts of injecting drugs, mental health, street-based sex work activities
  3. An ability to communicate effectively, deliver information clearly and undertake referrals.
  4. The ability to work autonomously, be self-directed as well as a capacity to work collaboratively within a team dynamic

Applicants must hold relevant qualifications in field of Drug and Alcohol, Social Work or other.

The purpose of the position is to cover the planned and unplanned leave of the permanent part-time staff. Possible shifts are Day (9am-5pm), Evening (5pm-11pm) and Active Overnight (11pm-9am) seven days a week. The Active Overnight shift is not a sleepover shift. Availability for all shift types is essential.

Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry Award 2010 - Social & Community Services Stream Level 4 Pay Point 4 – Base hourly rate: $35.57 (with loading).
