TITEB works closely with local employers, the Tiwi community and Federal and Territory Governments to provide relevant, practical training programs.

The Language, Literacy Numeracy Trainer position will assist in delivering contextualised and tailored Language, Literacy Numeracy (LLN) training for our learners on the Tiwi Islands

Your new role

As a Language, Literacy Numeracy (LLN) trainer, you will make a real and lasting impact for job seekers in this remote Aboriginal Community on the Tiwi Islands in the NT.

You will be required to plan & develop training and assessment materials, consult with various work teams on Literacy and numeracy and deliver literacy and numeracy training as required to adult learners for whom English is not their first language and literacy and numeracy skills may be low. Some travel may be required across both Bathurst and Melville islands.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate must hold the following Qualifications:

  • A minimum qualification in TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or its successor) and have qualifications and/or recent industry experience in the Community Services sector.

You will draw on your experience applying adult learning principals, creativity and innovation to your delivery and assessment approach, including design, mapping, validation and moderation of compliant assessment tools. You will be able to coordinate students' enrolments, drive, monitor and report on progress. In addition, you will have proven ability to undertake administrative functions with respect to training programs and have advanced knowledge of MS Office.

Experience in the remote Aboriginal environment and knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies and cultures will be very highly regarded.

Key Selection Criteria: 

In your application you will need to provide a written Response to the following criteria:

  1. Previous experience working with Indigenous Australians.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Indigenous people.
  3. Experience designing and delivering education and training programs for Indigenous adults for whom English is not a first language and literacy and numeracy skills are low.
  4. Ability to apply adult learning principles, creativity, innovation and consideration of individual learning needs to ensure that training programs meet client needs.
  5. Strong computer literacy, particularly in MS Office.

You must provide copies of the following Qualifications & Licences:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 or TAE40116) or a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.
  • Full Australian Drivers’ licence
