Wanted: Role Models. Our youth justice programs create a culturally safe space for young people to have fun and gain independence. You will implement activities with young people based on their interests and aspirations.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this casual position based in Mount Isa, you will mentor and support young people, assisting them to achieve their educational, recreational and employment goals while they are on bail. Working one on one, you will build trusting relationships through a range of engagement tools such as recreational activities to enhance participants' confidence, promote social behaviour and reduce juvenile crime. You will be part of our Mobile Youth Justice (MYJust) Bail Support program and report to the Team Leader.

This is a flexible service and the casual position will be required to work outside of normal business hours.

You will make an impact by:

  • Building lasting relationships with young people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Supporting young people to access services and connect with the community
  • Planning and implementing engaging activities
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships with program partners

If we could compose the perfect you…

…You're motivated to see young people develop, and you enjoy working with young people from different walks of life, with complex and challenging needs. You understand the issues young people are facing and have creative, innovative ideas to deliver engaging activities around their needs and interests. This coupled with your dynamic personality and communication skills enable you to build strong connections and drive young people to lead a bright future.

This role requires:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Youth Work (or a related field) is preferred,
  • Significant experience working with young people with complex needs or history of trauma
  • Strong organisational and record keeping skills, including using database systems
  • Knowledge of the youth justice system

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same.

In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Internal employment and development opportunities
  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Award rate salary
  • Professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions
