Playing is not only a child's right; it has also proven to have significantly positive effects on early childhood development. Our play-centred program supports young children to develop their social skills, independence and in turn their capacity to learn. We need you to give these children an experience of quality early childhood education, to develop their appetite for learning and help enable a smooth transition into school.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, max-term position (10 hours per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during school term time until June 2020), you will co-ordinate the planning, implementation and review of culturally appropriate developmental play and learning experiences for children. You will provide support and information to parents on developmental issues and make appropriate referrals to other health, education and welfare agencies. Based in Wagga Wagga, you will be part of our Murrumbidgee Early Childhood Care and Development team and report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Planning and facilitating weekly playgroup sessions
  • Finding creative ways to encourage vulnerable families to engage with our support programs
  • Identifying and addressing physical, social/emotional and educational needs
  • Referring to families to access other relevant programs or welfare agencies
  • Process monitoring, data collection and reporting

If we could compose the perfect you…

… You are truly passionate about standing up for children. You have experience in early childhood education and looking to develop your skills. You enjoy being out in the community and will thrive meeting new people and building relationships. You have strong cultural knowledge which helps you to engage with families and promote family wellbeing.

This role requires:

  • Experience delivering Early Childhood Education services
  • Knowledge of child and family issues and an understanding of child development stages
  • Ability to build relationships with adults and children from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Current valid driver's licence
  • Certificate III in Children's Services (or equivalent or progress towards)

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same.

In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • Internal employment and development opportunities
  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Award rate salary plus full salary packaging benefits
  • Professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions
