Children are often the silent victims of domestic and family violence. The Refuge Early Childhood (REaCh) Program aims to educate staff in multiple domestic and family violence refuges to ensure children's needs are front of mind. We need you to improve the capacity of refuge workers and give these children an experience of quality early childhood education.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this part-time fixed term role (3 days or 22.8 hours/week until December 2020) you will help organise and co-facilitate training for refuge staff across NSW, around trauma-informed approaches and the impact of domestic violence on children. You will support playgroup facilitation and devise ongoing early childhood resources and toolkits for refuges. Based in our Surry Hills office with regular travel to refuges in NSW, you will be part of our Refuge Early Childhood team and report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting 40 NSW domestic and family violence refuges around the impact of trauma on children
  • Co-facilitating training and mentoring refuge staff
  • Ensuring the impact of DFV and trauma on children is supported
  • Contributing to a sustainable child-centred approach amongst refuges in NSW

If we could compose the perfect you…

… You have experience in early childhood programs and an understanding of the needs of children and families who have been exposed to domestic and family violence. Your infectious enthusiasm for your job will see you actively building strong relationships with multiple program stakeholders. You consider yourself a team player; you love partnerships, collaboration and have an 'all-hands-on-deck' attitude.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Knowledge about the impact of domestic and family violence on children
  • Experience delivering playgroups for vulnerable families
  • Experience delivering training/facilitation is desirable

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same.

  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • Internal employment and development opportunities
  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Award rate salary plus full salary packaging benefits
