The Role:

An opportunity has become available for an experienced Safety Advisor to join our Human Resources team based in South Brisbane.

You will join a highly regarded NFP organisation, with numerous sites and operations across Queensland.

You will be required to work closely with stakeholders to provide advice, mentor and implement a proactive safety culture. You will leverage off your previous experience in the community and retail sector, bringing initiative and a fresh approach to workplace health and safety.

The overall accountabilities of this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring / reviewing/ observing and reporting safety performance;
  • Supporting safety responsibilities/accountabilities at all levels;
  • Building a Hazard / Risk Management culture into daily work activities;
  • Providing guidance to ensure OH&S training is applied for all personnel;
  • Coordinating individual Work Cover/ Rehabilitation/ Compensation matters.

To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar advisor position within the community sector. It is paramount that you have community sector experience including drug & alcohol services and hostel operations
  • Formal qualification in Workplace Health and Safety
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act, Regulations, and Codes of Practice
  • Previous experience in the development and implementation of training resources and process improvements
  • Be able to plan and prioritise own work, to take responsibility and utilise initiative for delivering work activities and projects in an effective and timely manner
  • Highly developed superior written, oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with all people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
