The RISC Association provides one to one support to people with severe or multiple intellectual or physical disabilities, to immerse themselves more significantly in the recreation and in social/ community activity of their choice. Quality support of our clientele involves a planned and skilful commitment to assisting the person to develop their personal resources in communication, independence and recreational skills. We currently support 20 people on a weekly basis and have staffing of 16 workers.

RISC is looking to supplement our organisational skill pool with three full time positions, whose focus will be the people we support and the activities they pursue.

Qualifications in either Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy is required for consideration in the role. The role will include hours for both planning and specifically supporting up to 6 individuals weekly as well as contributing to the overall service planning and delivery of up to another 16 individuals, across the year.

Commitment to community focussed recreation,independence development and the rights and respect for people with all levels of disability is essential. Specific skills in communication and independent living skill development for people with sensory, intellectual or physical disabilities are expected, as are advocacy skills. The role will include functions in occupational health and safety and training for other staff as applicable.

The remuneration for this position is expected to reflect the skills, experience and qualifications and the hours will also be negotiable with a minimum of 28 hours and a maximum of 38 hours available. Salary range will be between $50 – 60 ,000 per annum. There will be a capacity to salary package and access to an organisational vehicle may be included.

The role will best suit a person who values the time and support spent with the individual as an opportunity for development and is proactive and skilful in assisting the person to further their personal and recreational growth and lead other staff to deliver quality support. An understanding of the varied roles this position may take and commitment to the value of small non profit organisations is important.

With the approaching National Disability Insurance Scheme to start for Brisbane Residents with disabilities in mid-2018, this development year gives experienced practitioners and new graduates an opportunity to fully understand both the future opportunities in this sector as well as an opportunity to become more skilled in the needs of this sector. Considerable training will be given to the successful applicants in relation to the NDIS, specific needs of our clienteles and the frameworks and context of quality community support. This will best suit therapists whose preferred client group is adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
