- Do you remember when you first discovered you had HIV?
- Have you ever wanted to help others navigate their own diagnosis?
- If you are living with HIV, this is your opportunity to guide and support those who are newly diagnosed with HIV!
The role of a Peer Navigator is to support and guide PLHIV who are newly diagnosed or needing additional support to effectively engage in care.
The primary purpose of the Peer Navigator role is to provide client-centred support to PLHIV who are newly diagnosed or re-engaging in care. This will require the delivery of highly structured time-limited interventions that aim to foster personal resilience and improve health literacy. The delivery method of these interventions will primarily involve one-on-one client interactions, at outreach locations that offer privacy and safety to the clients. A key aspect of this role will be to work under the guidance of the Peer Support Coordinator to provide an individualised, outcome focused service that offers seamless care coordination with other Life+ services.
Please note, this is a casual role, offering approximately 15 hours per client engagement which could be scheduled over 1-5 weeks, based on the client's needs. The number of client engagements is dependent upon the number of referrals in your area that match your background and demographic profile. This role is designed to be flexible, to fit around other commitments such as work, study, family or other activities.
We are looking for PLHIV from diverse demographic and cultural backgrounds, such as women, heterosexual men, trans men and women, CALD, co-infection with HEP-C, younger and older MSM and those with lived experience of AOD and mental health are encouraged to apply.
We are seeking casual Peer Navigators for the following regional locations: Mackay, Cairns & Toowoomba / Ipswich. Interviews will be conducted in these locations in late January 2017. Successful applicants would need to be available to travel to Brisbane for training during February 2017.
