  • Remuneration:$75 000 to $92 000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience), plus statutory superannuation and 17.5% holiday leave loading

The Organisation

Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) is a not-for-profit incorporated association whose objective is to work for, encourage and foster the conservation, protection, enhancement and sustainable use of Queensland’s natural environment.

Incorporated in 1969, QCC is the state’s peak non-government environment group, with around 50 member groups, including ten regional conservation councils, as well as specific issue and national environmental NGOs.

Funding for the organisation comes from State Government and other grants, private contributions and fundraising activities. An Executive elected by the members is responsible for the overall direction of the organisation.

The Role

The Director will:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the organisation on fundraising, campaigns, staff management and policies, including identifying opportunities to grow QCC’s membership base, activities and fundraising.
  • Coordinate QCC’s campaign work, including developing campaign strategies and objectives, implementing tactics, generating campaign resources and communications including media.
  • Oversee the provision of campaign, organisational and strategic support for QCC’s member groups, particularly the regional conservation councils.
  • Coordinate QCC’s relationship with the Queensland government, including organising consultation roundtables with relevant Ministers, participating in committees and submission processes and providing advice as requested
  • Advocate for the environment to governments, the media and the community.
  • Manage QCC’s online presence, including overseeing email, website and social media.
  • Manage QCC staff, contractors and volunteers where appropriate.
  • Manage QCC’s budget operations, including overseeing the development of internal policies as appropriate.

Selection criteria

  • At least three years’ employment at a management or leadership level in the not-for-profit environment and conservation sector.
  • A demonstrated commitment to developing capacity for communities to advocate for environmental protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate campaigns and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff, contractors and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated experience of successful fundraising for environmental organisations or projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with governments and with a diverse range of groups and supporters.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an active public profile and media and online presence for an environmental organization, campaign or project.
