Looking for an exciting opportunity in advocacy, human rights and disability?

Queensland Advocacy Incorporated is recruiting a full time lawyer (75 hours per fortnight) to be our new Human Rights Legal Services Coordinator and lawyer.

The HRLS provides legal advice, casework, information and referral to people with intellectual disability or cognitive impairment in matters which impact their fundamental human rights, including in relation to restrictive practices, substitute decision making matters, and forensic orders (disability). The service frequently appears as legal representative and separate representative before the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Mental Health Review Tribunal.

In addition to providing these services to the highest standard, the HRLS coordinator is responsible for the strategic direction, policy and procedure, evaluation and reporting back for that service. The lawyer will also identify and assist in projects, education, law reform and systemic activities impacting people with disability, and support the work of other QAI services as needed.

Candidates must have a strong commitment to social justice principles, at least 2 years post admission experience, and have court/tribunal advocacy experience or equivalent.

The role is paid at QCSCAA Level 6.1 (approximately $85000 plus super and access to salary sacrifice).
