About the program

Hack Sounds is an entry point into the world of electronic music production during a 10 week program participants learn how to make music using accessible and fun-to-use tools, develop collaboration and performance skills, establish mentoring relationships and build social networks.

By embedding inclusive and accessible design, aspirations to develop quality creative practice and high- level communication content (refer to website for examples), Hack Sounds has developed a forward thinking approach to improve wellbeing and social cohesion through collaborative music making and skill building.

Currently offered to adults, Hack Sounds encourages inclusive participation, bringing together learners with and without disability, trained and untrained musically, together in a shared learning space. There is a keen interest and growth plans for developing a youth-focused group as well.

About the Role

Hack Sounds is an entry point into the world of electronic music production. The Associate Producer will coordinate and manage a 10 week workshop program that engages participants to learn how to make music using accessible and fun-to-use tools, develop collaboration and performance skills, establish mentoring relationships and build social networks.

The Associate Producer will have the prerequisite skills and experience to independently coordinate and facilitate responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Create, or assist in the creation of session plans for Hack Sounds sessions
  • Set up gear for Hack Sounds sessions
  • Support external facilitators, and lead Hack Sounds sessions where necessary
  • Support and guide small to medium sized groups of participants through a learning program
  • Utilise technology to capture audio and visual content
  • Maintaining monitoring and reporting documents
  • Taking part in meetings to track progress of the project
  • Communication with Hack Sounds group members
  • Assist to manage logistics where required for group members participation
  • Recruitment and supervision of volunteer facilitators and mentors
  • Assist with content documentation, website management, promotion and social media

Essential Criteria:

  1. Experience with music workshop programs, teaching or facilitation
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of Ableton
  3. Knowledge of music hardware and equipment
  4. Demonstrated skills in project management
  5. Commitment to community development principles
  6. Proven skills in innovation and creativity
  7. Ability to apply different communication styles

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Experience in working with marginalised groups, ideally including people with a disability
  2. Drivers licence, own vehicle, and willingness to use it for transporting Hack Sounds equipment, where irregularly required
  3. Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets
  4. Lived experience of disability
  5. Experience in applying for grants or sponsorship
  6. Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  7. Active with own creative practice
