Our inspiring and incredible yellow army of volunteers help us to fight the food waste fight and deliver exceptional high impact events and activities within the community throughout Australia. Our volunteering program provides OzHarvest with access to a broad spectrum of expertise to support major events such as the CEO CookOff, educational programs such as FEAST, NEST and Nourish as well as other core business activities.

As the Volunteer Coordinator you are essential to sourcing, engaging and connecting our volunteers to the OzHarvest Family and purpose. You will be responsible for their recruitment, onboarding, induction, management and recognition.

OzHarvest was founded by Ronni Kahn in 2004, who noticed the huge amount of delicious consumable food discarded every day. She decided there had to be a better way. OzHarvest now rescues surplus food to feed those in need all around Australia and we deliver that for free to over 1,000 charities. We also educate the public and our clients about food waste, nutrition and living a healthier lifestyle.

Since Inception OzHarvest has achieved some great milestones:

  • Over 100 million meals delivered
  • Over 35,000 tonnes of food rescued
  • Over 1000 charities helped
  • $1 = 2 meals to those in need

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Engage our volunteer community providing them with the opportunity to find true purpose and belonging through their engagement with OzHarvest
  • Manage the recruitment and selection of volunteers and onboarding
  • Conduct volunteer induction, event and activity briefs, to ensure volunteers are informed on how to carry out their designated role in an effective and safe manner
  • Manage the resource allocation and rostering of volunteers
  • Manage, maintain and ensure the currency of the volunteer database and web based management tools
  • Assist the OzHarvest team with the development of new programs and initiatives to ensure that volunteers are well supported in their roles

To be successful in this role

  • Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years’ equivalent experience in Volunteer Management, Human Resource Management, Workforce Management or Project Management
  • Sound project or resource management skills
  • Exceptional engagement and communication skills
  • The flexibility to attend both volunteer and corporate engagement activities
