Market Forces is an environmental finance campaigning project and affiliate of Friends of the Earth Australia. We advocate to shift finance and investment away from activities that harm the environment and into the protection and enhancement of the environment.

  • Location: Melbourne
  • Grade: Volunteer
  • Time commitment: Minimum 16 hours per week
  • Position reports to: Legal and Research Analyst

Summary of key tasks and duties:

The volunteer will be part of the international coal finance campaign team, delivering a wide range of activities focused on shifting finance away from coal power in Southeast Asia to clean energy, including:

  • Producing content for the Market Forces website and social media platforms related to projects and companies involved in the fossil fuel sector overseas
  • Coordinating events and activities with groups around the world
  • Drafting and delivering written communication (letters, emails, or briefings)
  • Desktop research to analyse investment in coal in Asia and suggest campaign opportunities
  • With other members of the team, creating strategies to win finance campaigns

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about the environment and climate-related issues and is motivated by the desire to create positive change for the environment and climate from the financial sector
  • Is excited about and could work well with campaigners from all over the world, appreciating the need to respect different cultural norms and dynamics
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Has excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Able to multitask and perform under tight deadlines and thrives on working in an ever changing environment
  • Is interested in developing skills in corporate campaigning
  • Fluency in at least one of the following languages: Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese, Korean or Mandarin
