The Finance Manager (known as “Finance Coordinator” in our field projects) is one of the most diverse and challenging roles within the Medecins Sans Frontieres project team. As the Finance Manager, you will be based either in the capital city of countries in which Medecins Sans Frontieres operates, with regular visits to field projects, or in field projects themselves. Examples of potential project locations include Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria and South Sudan.

Your Responsibilities

As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for project accounts, cash management and security, budget control and financial reporting. You will liaise with local authorities and service providers in relation to all project finance issues. You may also be part of the country management team, coordinating the financial resources for several field projects at the same time and contributing to discussion and decisions around project direction.

Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience in financial management, accounting and financial planning.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work as part of a senior management team and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Proven experience in Project Management
  • Commitment and availability to work overseas for a minimum of 12 months (non-negotiable)
  • Willingness to work in unstable environments/locations/contexts.


  • Additional experience in HR Management, policies and procedures
  • Financial management experience within the NGO Sector
  • Experience working/living overseas in a developing/remote context.
