About Western Sydney Community Legal Centre

Western Sydney Community Legal Centre works across Western Sydney, providing a range of legal and legal support services to the community. We are a new organization following the amalgamation of Macquarie Legal Centre, Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre and Hawkesbury Nepean Community Legal Centre.

Our organisation has 2 arms – a legal practice which provides legal information, legal advice, limited and targeted case work and community legal education across criminal, family, care and protection, civil, employment and discrimination areas. We have a specialist services in the areas of home building and tenancy. We also undertake law reform work.

Our community program arm provides legal support services including court advocacy for women experiencing domestic violence, children and young people appearing in the Children’s court with a specialist service supporting ATSI young people. We run a Children’s Contact Centre for families experiencing family breakdown, enabling children to have supervised contact with both parents and supervised change over. We also provide support to Aboriginal communities living in the Windsor area to access legal services and legal support services and run an education program for young people and youth workers.

WSCLC is a dynamic organization about to embark on a new Strategic Plan.

About this Role

WESTS Parramatta Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Program (TAAP) provides information, support and advocacy for tenants in the WESTS region, including representation in relevant Tribunals when necessary.

The TAAP IRO is accountable to the TAAP Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

  1. Providing information and referrals to tenancy clients
  2. Coordinating telephone advice & referral services
  3. Assisting WESTS Team Leader and staff with tenancy work
  4. General Duties

This is a Full Time position (35 hours per week) or on shared basis.  

Selection criteria  

  1. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legal and social issues relevant to disadvantaged people.
  3. Ability to work independently and as a cooperative member of the team
  4. Ability to work with stakeholders and WESTS Team Leader with tenancy work.
  5. Excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills and computer literacy
  6. Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Remuneration would be on the basis of Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHCADS) Award 2010. Level 3 Pay point negotiable $30.46 - 33.33 per hour.
