Little Scientists

Little Scientists is a not-for-profit initiative of FROEBEL Australia Limited, funded and supported by the Australian Government, with the aim to provide young children at early education and care services across Australia with hands-on, age-appropriate educational experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 

By offering a range of training and program modules the initiative empowers early childhood professionals to actively include relevant content in their educational work and to contribute to children’s educational journey by fostering curious, critical thinking, problem-solving and resilient individuals. 

To be able to reach out to as many long day care services, family day care services, after-school care programs, preschools and kindergartens as possible, the initiative supports the development of local networks who deliver the Little Scientists program to services within their local communities.

The opportunity:

The Marketing and Events Officer is reporting directly to the Project Director of Little Scientists and is responsible for:


  • Supporting the development of marketing materials, as well as digital marketing initiatives and online content (website, Facebook, etc.)
  • Contribution to ongoing website management to maximise the impact of electronic communications in relation to marketing and new media
  • Arranging the effective distribution of marketing materials
  • Building and maintaining positive and strong relations with media and partners of the initiative
  • Managing of and proactive engagement with press contacts, partners and workshop participants
  • Other ad hoc marketing and PR tasks as required


  • Supporting the Little Scientists team to deliver multiple events
  • Management of workshop registrations for Little Scientists partners through Eventbrite
  • Execution and delivery of event activities as directed
  • Logistics and project planning, to include catering, delegate transport, staff travel, accommodation, hotel and venue searches, entertainment and all resulting bookings and management.
  • Delegate management. Creation and management of registration process and the resulting RSVP process and management both pre-event and on-site where required. 
  • Creation and management of electronic mail outs via Mailchimp in collaboration with the Marketing and Events Coordinator
  • Track and communicate progress of projects and events including creating and managing event timelines with Events Coordinator
  • Contribute to the development of the creative theming and positioning of specific events including design and print of collateral, including name badges
  • Reporting on event metrics and budget management as required
  • Post event evaluation (including data entry, analysis and producing reports).
  • Onsite event management when required
  • Ad hoc event activity as required

 Stakeholder management

  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and service providers in the planning, organisation and delivery of events and actioning outcomes
  • Clear and timely communication of responsibilities for tasks related to delivery of successful events and conferences

Essential skills and experience

  • Entrepreneurial personality combined with a min of 3 years work experience in a role with similar responsibilities
  • Highly developed design skills, experience with working with Adobe Suite programs
  • Experience working with CMS such as WordPress
  • Ability to work in a small team environment
  • Ability to plan and organise overlapping tasks and activities under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines and within short time frames where required
  • Maintaining composure and a high level of personal presentation in high pressure situations
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Knowledge of core process of event management and information sources, suppliers and venues
  • Strong administrative skills and experience
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in an event management tool such as Eventbrite

 Desirable skills and experience

  • Ideally good knowledge of the Australian early childhood sector and the science community
  • The ability to effectively coordinate all facets of the marketing and event management process to include run sheets and production schedules
  • Experience working with external suppliers and vendors
  • Ability to work with floorplans and room layouts from a logistical standpoint
  • An understanding of graphic requirements such as file formats
