The Journalist is part of LHMU Victoria’s Media and Communications Unit. This unit produces internal member-focused communications and external campaign strategy, research and communications for our industry-wide campaigns.
Location: North Melbourne
Job Description
The Journalist will report to the Media and Communications Officer and will:
- Write media releases, and liaise/build relationships with journalists to get stories out
- Write public communications for campaigns, including leaflets, campaign web copy and e-newsletters to campaign supporters.
- Write op-ed articles and speeches
- Contribute content for the main LHMU website
Skills and Qualifications
The successful applicant must have:- Excellent writing and editing skills
- A degree or other qualification in journalism or communications
- A demonstrated commitment to campaigning for justice
- Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects
- Ability to work long and unpredictable hours
- Ability to frame issues for different audiences, including the media
- Research skills
- Ability to talk with people from diverse backgrounds
- Basic layout using In Design/Photoshop/Illustrator
- Photography, video and video editing skills are a bonus
