This is a temporary position until 30 June 2019, which may be filled in a full time or part time capacity depending on the successful applicant's availability.

The DVPW position provides crisis responses and brief intervention support during the Court process. The model works with all persons impacted by their experience or use of domestic violence, and supports clients through crisis intervention, risk assessments, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals to community and government agencies.

Your contribution:

  • Provide domestic violence support for clients at both the Brisbane Magistrates Court and Federal Circuit Court through evidence-based risk assessments; individualised safety plans; crisis counselling; and facilitated referrals to specialist services and the regional High Risk Teams.
  • Assist clients to understand the court processes relevant to their matter.
  • Work collaboratively with key Court stakeholders to enhance client safety and inform outcomes.
  • Assist women to complete Domestic Violence Protection Order applications, and support clients to obtain legal information, advice, and representation.

What we are looking for:

  • In completing the role of Domestic Violence Prevention Worker, the following capabilities are required.
    Experience in providing crisis and brief intervention services, including counselling, and have knowledge of the social issues impacting women, particularly in relation to domestic and family violence.
  • Knowledge of the relevant domestic and family violence legislation, court processes and support networks available to clients affected by domestic and family violence; and a commitment to self-development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and professional social work/human services theories.
  • Respectful and effective communication with clients with complex needs and ability to prepare documents in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
  • Represent the organisation effectively in public forums, and build and sustain relationships with a network of key internal and external stakeholders.
