The IEU represents teachers and other employees in non-government education and children’s services.

We are seeking a recent law graduate/recently admitted solicitor with excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, good legal research skills, good verbal and written communication skills and, most importantly, the ability to work as part of a team. A driver’s licence is desirable but not essential.

The position will be as an Industrial Officer (not as a solicitor), who will be part of our small industrial team and responsible to the Secretary of the Union.

The work will include:

  • Preparation and prosecution of claims on behalf of Union members relating to unfair dismissals, underpayments, dispute notifications, etc
  • Representation of members collectively, for example by negotiating enterprise agreements
  • Advice and assistance to other Union officers
  • Advice to Union members.

Experience is not necessary, but the successful applicant will be required to work closely with colleagues to acquire the necessary skills. A commitment to social justice and support for the general aims of the Union are essential.

Some weekend work will be required, and the applicant must be available to travel away from home.

Salary: from approx. $78,000 on appointment with annual incremental progression on a scale to a maximum of well over $100,000.

Conditions: six weeks annual leave, generous long service leave, super 13.5%
