Family Housing Worker

Employer: HomeGround Services
Work Type/s: Full Time
Classification/s: Advocacy, Family Services, Housing, Social Work
Sector/s: Not For Profit (NFP)
Location: Melbourne

Job posted on: 22 July, 2010.
Applications close: 05 August, 2010.

This is a new position which arises from the recently funded partnership between HomeGround Services, Wombat Housing Services and Salvation Army Social Housing and Support Network (SASHS) to deliver the Support for Families at Risk of Homelessness program (S4F) across northern and western metropolitan local government areas. S4F is funded through the four-year National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness and is an initiative of the Victorian Government.

The position will be embedded in HomeGround’s Social Housing Advocacy and Support Programs (SHASP) based in Collingwood and will deliver targeted case management services to families and children who require longer term support to successfully access, establish and maintain a public or social housing tenancy or private rental accommodation. The ultimate aim of the program is to prevent families and children from re-entering the homelessness service system.

Specifically, the role will work with families and children for up to twelve months to deliver intensive support services tailored to the needs of the family. The role will support families to establish and maintain long-term safe and sustainable tenancies. It will assist families and children to positively engage in their communities of choice and, where appropriate, link families with resources in the community including education, training, health, employment and recreational opportunities. The role will also focus on the needs of children and actively and positively engage children with educational, health and support services.

In line with the State Government’s Opening Doors framework, the position will work closely with the Local Area Service Networks (LASNs) and deliver services in partnership with the S4F positions based at Wombat Housing Services and SASHS.
