Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative is in an exciting phase of growth. Our dynamic team at Kepler Street provide a range of high quality community health and social support programs principally to the Aboriginal community and other residents in Warrnambool and surrounding areas. We are currently looking for a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Worker to join our expanding team.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Community Services, you will facilitate healing and improvements in the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families, affected by past policies and practices of forced removal, using culturally appropriate support and counselling. Ideally we are looking for someone with:

  • qualifications in counselling or other relevant area and experienced in a professional support role, or
  • a genuine interest in completing a counselling qualification or other relevant area, funded by Gunditjmara, and experienced in a professional support role.  
  • knowledge of and affinity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, Community and community control 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the removal/separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from families, and the effects of that removal including an understanding of contemporary issues
  • Case management skills
