Djirra supports Aboriginal women’s journey to safety and wellbeing, and provides legal and practical supports to Aboriginal people experiencing family violence across Victoria. Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with a rich history.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Bairnsdale office of the Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service (AFVLS) to become an integral member of the legal team. As a Paralegal Support Worker, you will work closely with a Senior Lawyer assisting clients to access a variety of legal, social, psychological, cultural, health and other support services to address their needs.

As a Paralegal Support Worker, your role will involve:

  • Legal administration tasks, including reception duties, client intake and appointment scheduling;
  • Assisting the Senior Lawyer with day-to-day management of client files;
  • Making referrals for clients to counselling, housing and other support services;
  • Providing support to clients at court and when reporting family violence to police;
  • Assisting clients to access Family Violence Flexible Support Packages;
  • General office duties including word processing, filing, scanning, photocopying, faxing, collecting and delivering mail and maintaining records of incoming and outgoing communications;
  • Meeting with local service providers and travelling to outreach locations;
  • Participating in our Community Legal Education activities.

A legal background is not required, but previous experience in an administrative role is preferable.

  • Djirra offers Salary Packaging up to $30,000 pro-rata.
