About Urapuntja Health Service

Urapuntja Health Service provides services to a population of about 1000 permanent residents who live in 16 homeland communities. A unique health service, Urapuntja delivers an outreach service to all 16 outstation communities every week, while the primary clinic is situated outside of these communities in it's own location.

Community involvement has been critical to everything that the organisation does, with the Service being developed from a desire of the Aboriginal people to have their own health service. The Board of Directors is elected from and by the community annually, with the group meeting regularly to discuss issues and make decisions relevant to the organisation. To this day, the health status of community members in this area are some of the best in the Northern Territory.

About the Opportunity

Urapuntja is now seeking a full-time Social Worker to join their dedicated team in Utopia, NT. These positions are being offered on a 12 month contract basis, with possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Clinic Manager and working as part of the SEWB Team ("Wellbeing for Our Mob"), this position is primarily responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating local wellbeing and support programs for individuals and families. It also helps to embed positive social and emotional wellbeing practices into the Urapuntja footprint.

This is not an appointment based role. The majority of your time will be spent delivering outreach services to the 16 community outstations, with the remaining time spent in Clinic.

Some of your main duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Developing and delivering the SEWB program in conjunction with the SEWB Team;
  • Providing social support to all clients, participating in opportunistic and community screening activities;
  • Linking community members to services related to housing, income, and food;
  • Providing bereavement support to families and pulling together resources required during this time; and
  • Working within the Wellbeing Shed and associated programs that provide an opportunity for community education regarding justice, family support, domestic violence and other relevant topics.
