This year will be critical for climate action and clean energy in Victoria with a state election coming up in November 2018. Environment Victoria will be leading a massive people-powered campaign to have a powerful impact this election year and ensure that whoever is elected the next Victorian government will protect our environment and put us on track to 100% renewable energy. 

If you’re passionate about empowering volunteers to get active on climate and clean energy, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our skilled and dynamic team working on our most innovative and ambitious organising campaign yet.

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced Community Organiser for a full-time (or near full-time) contract position for 9 months from March – December 2018. If you’ve got the skills and are up for the challenge – we’d love to hear from you!

Key responsibilities of the role:

In this role, you will build and support our volunteer network in key electorates in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and work with our Organising team to roll out actions to deliver our exciting and ambitious field organising strategy.   

Selection criteria:

We’re looking for someone that can tick the following boxes:

  1. Experience working on community campaigns or programs and in community organising, including planning and implementing community engagement tactics like local events, doorknocking and phonebanking
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to get ‘out and about’ and talk with people
  3. Experience supporting, training and facilitating volunteers and groups in community campaigns
  4. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  5. Highly organised and professional, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  6. Experience using online databases and digital organising tools to effectively segment and communicate with different types of volunteers
  7. Commitment to achieving positive environmental outcomes and an ability to understand and communicate about a broad range of environment issues


  • Experience working in an intensive election field organising context
  • Knowledge of Victorian environmental issues, politics and environment movement
  • Experience building local alliances or working with diverse stakeholders in a community setting
