Supervise forestry and fire operations including cultural burns, coordinating crews for controlled burns and fire preparation works and firewood coup thinning. Applicants should have:

  • Qualifications in fire operations (minimum DELWP General Fire Fighter, Medical and Task Based Assessment)
  • Relevant trade certificates including chainsaw operations
  • 5 years’ experience in the industry
  • Proven ability to implement and supervise staff to strict operating procedures

About the role

The objective of the role(s) is to lead a team of DDW Ranger(s) and Field Officers to deliver onground natural resource, environmental, landscaping and conservation management works. The role(s) will respond to the specific requirements of work assignment by developing and implementing a work plan to achieve job objectives within time, budget and quality parameters and in accordance with DDW Group operating and safety procedures.

Reporting Relationships: The position will report to the Works Coordinator.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Provide frontline supervision of the team allocated to each job.
  • Confidently apply and monitor OHS and environmental management standards.
  • Supervise and monitor the application of DDW Group policies and procedures to ensure employee safety and work quality are maintained at all times.
  • Provide on-job coaching to other staff and support workforce development objectives.
  • Liaise and consult with the public, Dja Dja Wurrung community and other stakeholders on the delivery of key projects, addressing issues and providing solutions on cultural heritage and environmental values as appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Works Coordinator to ensure staff and capital resources are used effectively across the program of work to achieve positive business outcomes.
