About us

The Consumer Policy Research Centre (CPRC) is a new, independent, broad-based consumer research centre established by the Victorian Government to drive policy and practice changes to benefit consumers. CPRC undertakes and coordinates research and policy development on consumer protection issues and monitors grassroots consumer issues.

CPRC works collaboratively across industry, government, academia and the community sectors, in undertaking research and developing evidence-based recommendations for change. We value diversity of thought and experience in aiming to solve what can sometimes be complex policy problems.

About the role

You’ll be joining the CPRC team at an exciting time of growth, just as some of the first research projects of the new organisation are getting underway!

As Senior Research & Policy Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the research agenda and research projects of the organisation within your areas of responsibility. The Senior Research & Policy Officer will be responsible for delivering policy analysis, research and strategic advice on consumer issues to further CPRC’s mission of achieving a fair outcome for all consumers.

Core responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality policy research, prepare briefs, reports, articles, fact sheets and other materials within key research priority areas.
  • Coordinate and support cross-sectoral research projects which deliver to the research priorities of the organisation.
  • Develop evidence-based recommendations for changes in business practice or policy changes which improve outcomes for consumers and facilitate inclusive markets.
  • Support the CEO to provide translational research to governments, regulators, businesses and others to deliver meaningful outcomes for consumers.
  • Prepare submissions as part of relevant government and regulatory processes so that CPRC’s position is communicated and is recognized as a key stakeholder and credible expert in these processes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with experts, thought leaders, policymakers and other influential stakeholders relevant to responsible policy areas.
  • Represent CPRC at relevant consultative forums and work co-operatively with identified stakeholders, facilitating CPRC involvement in policy development and ensuring the organisation has a credible voice in public debate on issues of importance to consumers.
  • Cooperate with and support the work of other advocacy organizations where this assists us to achieve long term benefits for consumers and builds capacity in the sector.
  • Contribute to developing team and organizational goals as part of annual and project planning processes.
  • Support CPRC’s collaborative approach to research and advocacy by working across the academic, industry, government and community sectors.
  • Contribute to CPRC’s accountability and reporting requirements.
  • Support the Chief Executive Officer to prepare research proposals and secure funding.
  • Other research and policy duties as reasonably directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
