Big West Festival is a leading community-based contemporary arts festival located in Melbourne's West. It celebrates and engages with the diversity of cultures, peoples and places in the City of Maribyrnong and beyond and seeks to build partnerships with the broader Western region of Melbourne. It engages and supports artists to facilitate community cultural expression, which both strengthens local communities and enriches the lives of citizens. Big West delivers activities and programs that are firmly based in contemporary arts practice and are for, by or about the West.

The next Big West Festival is in November 2013.

The applicant should possess the following skills and experience:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to community-based contemporary arts.
  2. Proven experience in programming, planning and creation of new work.
  3. Demonstrated capacity in attracting and maintaining funding, sponsorship and stakeholder relationships.
  4. Demonstrated strong knowledge of multi-art form programming and presentation in Australia.
  5. A commitment to engaging with diverse cultures, people and places.
  6. An understanding of the broader cultural contexts (local, regional and national) in which the Big West Festival operates.
  7. Proven experience working in a team environment.
  8. Experience supervising staff, contractors and volunteers.
  9. High level written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Package: $60-65k pro rata + super
Hours: 0.8 EFT rising to full-time for the 6 month period around the festival.
Type: 2 year fixed term contract
