Beaumont People are currently recruiting for an identified Family Advisor who will work with Aboriginal families within the community.

A interesting and diverse role, working as part of the West Sydney Family Referral service reporting to and working closely with the Team Leader.

You will provide professional intake, assessment and ongoing support and engagement with family members. Linking and referring them to services within the community. You will be experienced in working with and supporting Aboriginal families to identifying the needs of clients who have complex needs. You will also have a passion for developing relationships within the community. 

This 6 month fixed term contract is joining a team with a positive and creative atmosphere. Possibility for extension on contract. 

Main areas of the role:

  • Work collaboratively with the Western Sydney Family Referral team, engaging with Aboriginal clients. 
  • Providing professional intake and assessments of the needs of individuals and families.
  • Provide information to clients and make referrals to appropriate services and other related community services.
  • Community development; Building effective community links and relationships with Aboriginal families, services, stakeholders and groups. This would include representing the organisation in local Aboriginal interagency meetings and activities. 
  • Ongoing management of cases where clients are accessing or using organisation services, liaising with other staff and service providers as needed.
  • Actively participate at community events to positively represent the organisation and services across 8 local government areas - Auburn, Parramatta, Hills, Blacktown, Penrith and Blue Mountains.

Based in Mount Druitt or Rouse Hills - Fixed term contract till July 2018 with the possibility of extension. 

About you:

You will be a warm, empathetic and adaptable person, with excellent communication and conflict resolution skills. You must have solid awareness of children and family services and community development.

To be successful for this role you will have:

  • Hold formal qualifications in social work, counselling, psychology, welfare, or health related fields or be working towards qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a non-profit setting supporting families experiencing significant crises, family and domestic violence or family transitions. 
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues relating to client safety, confidentiality, and the requirements of relevant legislation (Care and Protection of Children Act, Family Law Act, and Privacy Act).
  • Have a passion for creating links and networks within the community and working alongside a wide range of people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A basic level of counselling skills will be well regarded.
  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Current full driver’s license.

All successful applicants must be willing to undergo a national police check and provide a WWCC check.
