Employer: Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation
Work Type/s: Part Time
Classification/s: Indigenous, Administration
Sector/s: Not For Profit (NFP)
Location: Sydney

Job posted on: 10 April, 2018.
Applications close: 30 April, 2018.

The opportunity to serve as Baabayn's part-time Support and Development Officer arises at an exciting time in our history. We are looking to build on the foundations of a successful Healing Forum that we hosted last year in cooperation with the Healing Foundation. We have finalised a strategic plan for our Aboriginal Local Drug Action Team with funding from the Drug and Alcohol Foundation. Our move to new premises last year is encouraging more Aboriginal people to engage with our programs. We have just been recognised as a Public Benevolent Institution and achieved Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. We have exciting opportunities for cooperation with the Murama Youth Summit, and we look forward to engaging in new cultural activities at Sydney Olympic Park.

The main responsibilities of the successful applicant will be:

  • Administrative support for Baabayn’s existing programs and activities;
  • Liaison with community members and service providers to facilitate cooperative initiatives;
  • Coordinating a strategy for Babayn’s organisational development and financial sustainability;
  • Contributing to Baabayn’s ongoing assistance to individuals and families in the Aboriginal community of the Mount Druitt-Penrith-Quakers Hill area.

The appointee will report to Baabayn’s Directors, all of whom are Aboriginal Elders, and work in close co-operation with the voluntary administrative team. Baabayn is committed to the empowerment of Aboriginal people. While the Support and Development Officer will have some coordination responsibilities, in other cases her role will be to provide administrative support for activities that members of Baabayn are organising themselves.

The expected hours are three days per week.
