The Australian Childhood Foundation has a strong reputation for delivery of clinical services, professional training and secondary consultation programs built upon up to date and evidence and based upon theoretical frameworks including the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and relational theories and child development. This theoretical framework provides the foundation upon which all elements of care and intervention are provided by the therapeutic care programs.

The opportunity:

We currently have a Therapeutic Specialist role available in Katherine on a full or part time basis providing therapeutic services in a residential care setting in partnership with Anglicare.

The Foundation has a partnership with Anglicare NT to deliver a therapeutically informed Residential Care and Intensive Youth Support Services to children and young people subject to the involvement of the Territory Families. The Therapeutic Specialist will assume the role of clinical lead and work closely with staff in each of the programs to support the implementation of a trauma-informed model and therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families.

The major elements of the therapeutic residential care program include the provision of an enriched, therapeutically intentional environment throughout all staff interactions. This will be achieved by an inclusive team approach, and the provision of specialised therapeutic support and training to carers/staff.

The Intensive Youth Support Service will work with young people deemed to be at risk and vulnerable. The Therapeutic Specialist will be responsible for working with a small team of youth support workers in the development of intervention plans for young people that take account of and address the impacts of trauma and disruption in the lives of the young people.

About the role:

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Therapeutic Specialist who will act as a specialist therapeutic consultant and practitioner within the residential and intensive youth support programs in partnership with Anglicare. You will be a key member of the support team for care staff and other professionals working with the children and young people.

As the Therapeutic Specialist you will be responsible for the key areas of:

  • Program development, implementation and review
  • Specialist therapeutic support and advice
  • Therapeutic work with children
  • Delivery of training on trauma and therapeutic care
  • Advocacy and research

About you:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in the area of child abuse and/or working with traumatised children.
  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal Records Check
  • Current and valid Working with Children Check or equivalent
  • Current drivers licence

Remuneration & Benefits:

The salary package is based on the terms and conditions of a Social and Community Services Employee Level 6 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

Depending on personal circumstances, the total value of the package is approximately $104,496 - $110,261, including superannuation, and salary packaging.
