About the Position

A Place to Belong is a program working to build inclusive connected communities that welcome, respect and include others especially those who experience mental health challenges. It provides support through a focus on recovery, developing skill and building networks.

We are currently looking for a full time Recovery Practitioner - Disability to join this dedicated team of professionals who make a significant contribution to our program and the outcomes we achieve in the community for families and people with intellectual disability. The successful candidate will provide support in an outreach capacity - either in the family home or at contact points. With a focus on family attachments and child development, the role will support families to enhance and develop capacity to parent, meet the needs of their child/ren, and promote a safe & secure home environment. This is a fixed term contract starting immediately, until the end of June 2019 (with possible extension).

About You

With a background in using a strengths-based approach to facilitate planning and support to parents and women, our ideal candidate will also offer:

  • A strong, robust understanding of Trauma Informed and Recovery Orientated Practice frameworks and the NDIS reform
  • Practical experience working with vulnerable people who identify with intellectual disability / learning impairment to enhance their autonomy and independence
  • Practical experience in case management building up families and capacity to advocate for your clients
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of people
  • Highly organised, with time management skills and unwavering attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, which maintain a high level of professionalism
  • A team player who is also confident to self-management and prioritise your own full workload
  • Strong computer skills with the capacity to develop and maintain effective, accurate case notes and reports

Your qualifications will include:

  • A Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or similar field and/or equivalent practical experience in homelessness, disability, or parenting & family support
  • National Police Certificate
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children) with Yellow Card exemption
  • Queensland Driver Licence
