Extend your project management skills into a contribution towards  breaking down barriers for marginalised people.

The Inter Press Service (IPS) is the world's leading news agency on issues such as development, environment, human rights and civil society. It was the first news outlet to identify itself as "global" and define the new concept of neoliberal globalisation as contributing to the marginalising of developing countries from wealth, trade and policy-making.

IPS (Africa), an integral arm of IPS, faces an increase in project related funding, and this creates the need for greater project management expertise within the organisation. Staff member's have attended training in various aspects of project management, and now seek an Australian Volunteer to provide practical support to increase the staff's confidence in the application of these skills and support IPS Africa’s continued growth.

IPS has requested a volunteer able to demonstrate their expertise with:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent formal expertise in Project Management, applied to  communications & media management
  • Successful results in a range of projects and environments in communications and outreach, including leading or contributing to the full project cycle – project management, monitoring and evaluation
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, in English, including a demonstrated ability to write in a clear and concise manner

In addition to professional expertise, applicants need to demonstrate their skills in training & developing others, applied awareness and sensitivity to cross-cultural communication, patience, tolerance and flexibility.

Based in cosmopolitan Johannesburg, you will be able to build a wide network within both media and development circles, and continue to build your professional and management portfolio. You will be supported with training and continuous security guidance to live and work safely.
