The University of Queensland Student Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation, independent of the University of Queensland that supports and represents the student community by actively promoting a positive, fun, healthy and supportive student Experience. This is a unique organisation, operating numerous food, beverage, entertainment and retail outlets on UQ campuses, as well as Student Advocacy and Support, and student clubs and societies at St Lucia and Gatton Campuses. UQU employs over 150 staff, a percentage of whom, being elected students, change annually. 

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In this newly created role as our Student Voice Engagement Officer, you will help UQU foster a powerful network of student representatives by playing a lead role in the development of new infrastructures, opportunities, resources, and training for Student Representatives at UQ.  To do this you will work with the Student Rights portfolios, UQU Student Officers, and other UQU departments (Advocacy, etc) on a variety of projects and activities to enhance the student voice and representation networks supported by UQU.  This will involve fostering relationships with key university staff, committees, boards, and coordinating and maintaining such opportunities.  You will play an active role in supporting Student Representatives, UQU Student Executive, Advocacy, and other staff in ensuring key student matters are communicated through the right channels, to the right offices, and reach the right forums. 

In addition, you will be:

  • Assisting with UQU’s various outreach activities.
  • Performing desktop research, data gathering and analysis, and putting together briefs and reports.
  • Documentation and record-keeping.
  • Other tasks relevant to the portfolios and needs of the organisation.

This role is available on an initial fixed-term 12 month contract. We are flexible with working hours and days, and are happy to accommodate 3-5 days per week depending on your preference.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  1. Completed a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  2. Proven history of achieving business objectives while eliciting strong customer satisfaction.
  3. Demonstrated organisational skills.
  4. Demonstrated Project management success.
  5. Proven history of leading, organising, and motivating groups of people.
  6. Experience with student union activities, including familiarity with its operations, governance, and advocacy, is highly regarded.
  7. Experience in training, education, and/or community engagement considered an asset.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Well developed, practical, communication skills suitable to a potentially hybrid work environment.
  2. Computer literacy including required software packages.
  3. Ability to contribute to team objectives and motivation, including UQU’s Code of Conduct.
  4. Ability to effectively handle customer feedback in a professional and courteous manner.
  5. Ability to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  6. Excellent administrative skills, including minute taking and facilitating meetings.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to collect, analyse and report on data considered an asset.
