On behalf of the Kimberley Like Nowhere Else (KLNE) alliance, we are inviting applications for the newly created position of Kimberley Campaign Coordinator. 

The role will coordinate engagement with the Perth community and online supporters of the campaign to protect the Kimberley’s Martuwarra Fitzroy River, one of Australia’s most important, free-flowing rivers. This Perth-based role is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong campaign and public-facing communication skills to support environmental advocacy forKimberley conservation efforts. 

WHAT YOU’D BE WORKING ON  

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

Working closely with the Kimberley Like Nowhere Else and the WA Pew Charitable Trusts campaign teams, the Kimberley Campaign Coordinator will work with local communities, stakeholders and government to contribute to securing long-term protection for the Martuwarra Fitzroy River. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Develop and implement online communications and supporter engagement plans in consultation with other team members.
  2. Produce, distribute and promote campaign materials in consultation with other team members.
  3. Generate, manage and promote content across digital platforms including campaign website and Facebook in consultation with other team members. 
  4. Manage contractors within defined budgets.
  5. Coordinate community outreach work including building relationships with relevant community leaders and individuals, community media outlets, and other opportunities for personal engagement.
  6. Organise community events and information stalls in target areas to help engage supporters and promote campaign key messages.
  7. Organise volunteer recruitment and management.
  8. Assist with the development of campaign strategy and the coordination of regular engagement between campaign team members across the partner organisations. 
  9. Support lobbying and negotiations with stakeholders and political decision makers.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Motivation to achieve conservation outcomes for the natural environment and regional communities and an outcomes-orientated mindset.
  2. Prior experience in coordinating campaigns or other communications projects. Campaign advocacy or political campaign experience a significant benefit.
  3. Experience in community outreach, public and stakeholder engagement and event organising.
  4. Demonstrated experience in setting and achieving ambitious targets for generating expressions of public support for issues is desirable.
  5. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, creatively, and laterally to identify opportunities that win campaigns is desirable.
  6. Good written and verbal communication skills, and team and stakeholder facilitation skills.
  7. Well organised and self-motivated; and with experience in working independently in a team environment. 
  8. Ability to plan and implement projects and collaborative initiatives, including the ability to prioritise competing time demands.
  9. Experience managing staff, contractors and/or volunteers is desirable.
  10. A sound understanding of the Western Australian social and political environment is desirable.
  11. Willingness to work weekends when required, and for possible occasional travel to regional Australia. A driver’s license is required.

TERMS

The fee scale per annum ranges from $80,000 - $90,000 depending on skills and experience, plus Superannuation at the legislated rate. It is expected that the brief will require a workload of 5 days per week, including some afterhours work.

The initial contract runs through to 30 September 2024 with an extension likely, dependent upon performance, funding and campaign requirements.
