Formerly the AIDS Action Council, Meridian was established in 1983 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and has a strong and proud history of working with and representing diverse groups of people. This includes gay and bisexual and other men who have sex with men, lesbian and queer women, transgender and gender diverse people, people with disability, sex workers, people who use drugs, and people in custodial settings. Over this time, we have learnt to be dynamic, intersectional, and progressive with our approach to tackling complex social health issues such as HIV/AIDS and the health and wellbeing of sexuality, sex and gender diverse people. Our vision is to build strong, connected and supportive communities that are free of new HIV transmission, marginalisation, discrimination and stigma. Position

Meridian is seeking a dedicated and dynamic LGBTIQA+ Training and Education Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about adult learning and possess strong organisational and communication skills. The Training and Education Coordinator will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs for LGBTIQA+ awareness to enhance the knowledge and skills of our government and community sector partners. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of Meridian through the delivery of high-quality training initiatives.

The position is full-time based onsite at the office in Turner.  The successful applicant will be required to provide a minimum of 5 x 3 hour training sessions every week in addition to program coordination and reporting.

Meridian employees staff who have lived experience use this openly, appropriately and effectively to build professional relationships with the people they work with.  Lived experience is used to inform and contribute to staff culture and encourage community understanding and reduction of stigma and discrimination for all affected communities.

Responsibilities

  • Training program development. Collaborate across Meridian services and with subject matter experts to develop comprehensive training programs.
  • Curriculum Design. Design engaging and interactive training materials, including presentations, handouts, and multimedia resources, to facilitate effective learning experiences.
  • Training Delivery. Facilitate training sessions through various delivery methods, such as face to face workshops, online and webinars ensuring content is delivered effectively and participants are actively engaged.
  • Training development. Led the development of opportunities for e-learning, use to technology and media. Develop Meridian’s fee-for-service framework for training and education.
  • Training Evaluation. Implement Meridian’s evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of training programs and gather feedback from participants to inform continuously improvement.
  • Administration. Manage logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, venue coordination, participant registration, and resource allocation, to ensure smooth execution of training activities.
  • Record keeping. Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and participant performance, and generate reports to track progress and measure the impact of training initiatives.
  • Communication. Communicate effectively with stakeholders in government and community sector partners to promote awareness of training opportunities, gather input on training needs, and provide regular updates on training initiatives.
  • Coordinate. Oversee the work of the training, education and group work facilitator (1 FTE staff member) collaboratively with the Executive Manager.

Qualifications, Key Attributes, and Skills.

  • Relevant qualifications (eg. CPLP, CPTM) and sound experience in developing and delivering training and education programs.
  • Strong knowledge of LGBTIQA+ communities and social issues affecting these communities. 
  • Proven substantial experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs, preferably in a corporate or organisational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and training methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate learners of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, manage, support, develop and motivate employees, including monitoring performance, to achieve organisational goals and objectives.
  • Proven ability to initiate new ideas, analyse complex problems and exercise sound professional judgement, with a data-driven approach to measuring training effectiveness and making informed decisions.
  • Able to effectively achieve results through the efficient use of resources and a commitment to fostering on-time and on-budget quality outcomes in the organisation.
  • Proven ability to build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships, able to negotiate, network, consult and respond to the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders and manage working groups.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision and as part of a small team to achieve individual, team and organisational goals.
  • Proficiency in using training development software and learning management systems (LMS) to create and deliver training content.
  • Hold a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WVVP) Registration
  • Possess a valid Australian Driver's License.

Other activities as required and commensurate with skills, knowledge and experience and aligned with Meridians purpose and strategic plan.
