The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria, providing specialist knowledge and support to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. About the Role

YRIPP is the Youth Referral and Independent Person Program and sits within the broader Program and Services area. YRIPP delivers a high quality system of adult volunteers called “Independent Persons” who attend police interviews with young people in police custody when a parent or guardian is not available. YRIPP also seeks to divert young people from future offending through early intervention at the point of police contact.

  • Hours: 38 hours per week, Full Time, 0.8 considered.
  • Fixed Term until 30/06/2025.
  • Base Salary (SCHADS Level 5) : $93,860.00 per annum plus Super and access to Salary Packaging

Key Selection Criteria

  • Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with police stations providing regular in-person, written and verbal communication, providing program updates (including police survey data), remaining responsive to feedback and leading resolution.
  • Represent YRIPP and strengthen YRIPP’s presence with external organisations, service providers and specialist stakeholders providing regular in-person, written and verbal communication, providing program updates and fostering positive relationships.
  • Provide guidance to YRIPP Project Officers in dealing with complex matters with young people or with Independent Persons consistent with program best practice - including the provision of on-the-spot advice as well as leading solutions.
  • Support YRIPP’s volunteer recruitment and training processes including identifying recruits through networks.
  • Develop referral and youth support protocols with organisations and service providers to support young people in contact with the justice system.
