You’re more than just an accountant. You love numbers, spreadsheets and solving the world’s (and batyr’s) problems. You have a real eye for detail and you’re not afraid to get down to the nitty gritty. POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day to day financial operations of batyr. Working with the Head of Finance and Finance Officer, the Senior Accountant will closely monitor and evaluate batyr’s financial position to ensure that we are in tip-top shape and can continue meeting our operational and strategic milestones. The role will also be responsible for continually improving the financial policies and procedures of the organisation and working with the whole team to ensure that these are followed to the letter.

This role will report to the Head of Finance, based in Sydney.

All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile monthly management reports, including profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow with commentary on any variances to budget
  • Maintain up to date profit & loss and cash flow forecasts
  • Develop and maintain various financial models to ensure accurate costings for batyr’s core programs and other projects
  • Continually improve financial processes, procedures and policies
  • Prepare annual and project budgets and ensure that actuals are recorded and monitored in line with this each month
  • Prepare year end financial statements and lead the annual audit process
  • Manage compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant legislation
  • Oversee and manage Finance Officer who is responsible for bookkeeping, month end and payroll functions

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • 4+ years experience in a similar role with CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience developing and managing budgets and forecasts as well as experience preparing management reports for senior management.
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to juggle multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Outstanding communicator, both orally and written, to ensure everybody (external and internal) knows what they need to do and when they need to do it

Desirable Qualities:

  • Understanding of, or experience in, the Not For Profit sector
  • Knowledge of current requirements and legislation in relation to salary sacrifice arrangements, FBT, superannuation, workers compensation and other legislation specifically relevant to non-profit organisations
  • Experience using Xero
