About Blue Bow Tie

Blue Bow Tie is a charity registered with the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) which aims to support and bring public awareness to the plight of male victims of domestic and family violence and abuse. The ultimate aim is to be able to build/provide a shelter for these men to give them a safe place to rebuild their lives.

BBTL will eventually apply for DGR (Deductible Gift Recipients) status which will allow the charity several much needed tax concessions.

More About the Roles

To support our development and expansion, we are seeking community-minded and skilled individuals who are passionate about raising awareness of, and offering support to, this often-overlooked demographic.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the development of BBTL’s strategy, policies and procedures, supporting the organisation to achieve its purpose, and governing the overall reputation, risk and financial management of the organisation. It is the responsible for BBTL’s overall performance and compliance, providing strategic direction, effective governance, and leadership on behalf of our stakeholders.

We have a small, but passionate group of people already involved, but due to unforeseen circumstances, our Treasurer had to resign their position, and now needs to be replaced.

However, we aren’t looking for your typical Board member. We are looking for people who can openly and passionately support the core foundation of BBTL but are also keen to roll up their sleeves and jump right in, putting their actions where their mouths are.

Raising awareness and offering support is at the forefront of everything we do. There is no better feeling than helping to create an inclusive space that has a life-altering impact on male victims of domestic abuse, letting them know they are not forgotten or ignore, but remain a valued member of the community.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working closely with the founder and current Board to ensure Board agreed program-related activities are completed as per agreed timelines
  • Contribute and apply knowledge and experience of the community services sector to future BBTL’s overarching strategic objectives
  • In conjunction with the founder/CEO, be a public face of the Board when required (e.g. to volunteers, employees, media, and wider community)
  • To participate in furthering BBTL’s strategic goal through fundraising

About You

You are someone who is passionate about advancing the visibility of male victims of domestic abuse around regional Victoria, and beyond.

You are someone who has the time and passion to dedicate to BBTL during this critical phase of its growth and are seeking meaningful ways to contribute support and increase awareness in our society. You may also be someone with the following skills and attributes:

  • Commitment to advancing the visibility and support of the male victims of domestic and family violence and abuse in regional and rural Victoria, and beyond
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, enthusiastic about being a part of a team working towards a collective purpose
  • Ability to provide strategic advice, oversight and support to the founder/CEO, and the organisation
  • Willing and able to commit the time and skills to meet the responsibilities of this voluntary role
  • May possess experience in governance, financial management, fundraising, community services, and marketing and communication, although it is not a deal-breaker if you don’t. The most important thing is a genuine alignment with BBTL’s core objectives
