  • Work Location: Birth and Beyond Office, 10/89 Todd St (Fan Arcade)
  • Responsible to: Birth & Beyond Committee of Management.
  • Contract: Permanent part time (hours negotiable, up to 20 hours per week) with 6-month probation period.
  • Remuneration: SCHADS Award Level 3.4 to 4.4 Pro Rata (commensurate with experience) + 11% superannuation.
  • Position starting: Mid-June 2024 with a handover period of 2 weeks.

BACKGROUND TO THE POSITION:

The Childbirth Education Association of Alice Springs, trading as Birth & Beyond Parent Resource Centre (B&B) provides education, support, resources, information and advocacy for local families during pregnancy, birth and early days parenting in the Alice Springs region.

B&B is a dynamic non-profit association with a significant membership base and maintains strong ties to the Alice Springs Community. This position provides crucial support services to the community and requires the successful applicant to provide face to face services during working hours. The nature of this role requires the successful applicant to have established child care arrangements in place prior to their commencement at B&B. The position offers flexible working arrangements for the right candidate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will have responsibility for the following:

  1. Management, coordination and implementation of antenatal and postnatal education, including the facilitation of new groups and events. This includes promotion and communication strategies mainly via social media and occasional local media. coverage.
  2. Working autonomously to maintain the office as a drop-in centre to ensure it is a clean, welcoming and non-judgmental safe space for all parents and children. Providing support to new parents in particular and assistance with access to resources and referral to relevant local services. This includes management of equipment hire and space hire through various online platforms and some light cleaning duties.
  3. Continue to build and strengthen relationships with a number of stakeholders, including Government and non-Government bodies. This includes grant application, reporting and acquittal.
  4. Manage organisation's finances and liaise with the bookkeeper to keep accurate records in line with B&B policies and procedures.
  5. Attend and organise Committee of Management meetings which happen every 6 to 8 weeks after-hours.
  6. Supporting the Committee of Management with tasks relating to advocacy, fundraising and governance.

KEY ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS FOR THE CANDIDATE:

  • Staff must have/be willing to obtain a current police check and Ochre Card.
  • Not for profit and/or project management experience with tasks including managing volunteers, preparing and working to a budget, working with a Committee of Management, coordinating and developing activities.
  • Grant management, writing, reporting and acquittals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the key issues facing expecting and new parents in Central Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of not-for-profit compliance and governance functions.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, quickly adapt to new tasks, prioritise workload and maintain discretion/confidentiality.
  • Networking, collaboration and partnership building skills and experience.
  • Marketing, promotion and communication, including through social media.
  • Any other experience or qualification you feel you could bring to the role.
